Prysmian Group is the world’s leader in the energy, telecom cables and systems industry, as well as the largest cable producer in the world. A primary role in the production process of their high voltage cables is the testing station. Here cables are stripped of their armoring and tested to make sure they perform correctly. The task of stripping the armoring is both tedious and arduous due to the use of outdated tools. As a result, it slows down the station and takes a physical toll on the operator's wrists. The solution is to implement a new set of automated tools, both previously existing and modified, to the workstation. Changing over from manual tools to automated has shown to reduce the ergonomic strain that the operators face when working and decreases the time it takes for them to strip the armoring. In turn, Prysmian Group will be able to increase the rate at which cables are prepped for testing while reducing their risk of employee injury at this station.
