Augmented Reality Assisted Training Application

This project develops an augmented reality training application to help technicians learn how to operate different tools/equipment used by the University of Connecticut’s Industrial Training and Assessment Center (ITAC). Traditional training methods often rely on manuals or in-person instruction, which can be time-consuming and difficult to scale. Our goal is to create a more interactive and intuitive training experience using augmented reality. The application is built using Unity and runs on the Microsoft HoloLens 2 mixed reality headset. Using technologies such as OpenXR and the Mixed Reality Toolkit (MRTK), the system allows users to interact with holographic instructions through natural gestures and voice commands. When wearing the headset, users can see virtual interface elements and step-by-step guidance overlaid onto their real environment while working with the physical device. The system guides users through tasks such as configuring the device, starting and stopping data collection, and understanding the information displayed on a device's screen. The project is designed to be modular so that additional devices and training modules can be added in the future. By combining hands-on interaction with augmented reality guidance, the application aims to make technical training more engaging, accessible, and efficient.
