Integrated Test Cylinder Project

This project focuses on designing a testing assembly capable of conducting two separate cylinder verification tests within a single mechanism. Specifically the “Over Pressure” test were up to ten cylinders are pressurized up to 3000 psi by use of Methylene Chloride for a prolonged period of time under the watch of a notary- as well as the “Leak” test where up to four cylinders are pressurized with super chilled air and submerged in water in order to check for leaks. Integrating the two tests into one assembly will significantly reduce cycle time and significantly increase throughput. To date, the team has developed an initial integrated assembly concept, performed structural analyses in ANSYS under full load conditions, and identified preliminary support requirements to ensure structural stability. Early design iterations revealed a critical challenge involving the need for a specialized swivel fitting capable of operating above 3000 psi an under –50 degrees Farenheight working conditions, which has been identified as a major design focus moving forward. The upcoming work includes prototype development, validation testing, refinement of safety features, and finalization of the complete design package for implementation.
