Feasiblilty of Swaged Inserts on Bolted Flanges

The project objective was to design and fabricate performance tests on swage-locking threaded inserts to evaluate the feasibility of its use in place of helical threaded inserts. The motivation to begin investigating the swage-locking insert was due to the persistent issues that Pratt & Whitney has experienced with Heli-Coils on their bolted flanges including the backing out of the insert in the parent threads, foreign debris remaining after Heli-Coil installation, and weight and space needed increase for optimal insert length.
