SedMed Hip-Height Extender Design

Team ME49 is developing an attachment that works with the existing SedMed Lift Assist to improve accessibility for patients recovering from hip replacement surgery. The device acts as both a height extender and angled seat, helping reduce how much patients need to bend their hips when sitting down or standing up. By raising the seat and slightly tilting it forward, the design helps patients follow common post-surgery movement restrictions and makes the device easier and safer to use. The attachment is designed to securely connect to the current SedMed Lift Assist without requiring any modifications. It uses a simple mounting mechanism that allows nurses or caregivers to quickly install or remove the device when needed. The design also focuses on being stable, easy to clean, and compatible with the existing SedMed system, while supporting the needs of both patients and healthcare staff.

Our team collaborated with Multidisciplinary Engineering 3 on this project.
