Prediction of residual stresses associated with inclusions in a matrix
The goal of our project is to accurately predict residual stresses within a precipitation hardenable aluminum alloy after heat treatment. We have solution treated and aged samples of 7075 aluminum to perform XRD, TMA, microscopy, and hardness testing. This will allow us to determine the different microstructures, mechanical properties, and residual stresses of the various samples. The data from these experimental efforts will then be sent to Dante Solutions. Using their software, they will create digital twins of each of our samples and enter the data that we have provided. By building and validating a finite element model for residual stress prediction, it is possible to manufacture aluminum in a way that is both easier and of better quality.
