Plum Island Groundwater Well System Expansion
Plum Island has been the primary defense for the United States trillion dollar livestock and cattle industry. Since 1954, the Plum Island Animal Disease Center (PIADC) has worked to defend our nation's cattle and swine from foreign and domestic transboundary animal diseases (TAD). The island is located in Suffolk County, NY and owned by the United States Department of Homeland Security (USDHS) while research is primarily controlled by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). There have been recent plans to expand the current facility operation which requires an increased water demand. The goal of this project is to design an expanded well water supply system that will transport groundwater to a new facility or existing water tower. The success of this project will result in the functionality of higher security biocontamination labs, allowing for more thorough research on newer and more advanced diseases.
