Design and Development of a Non-sterile Knee Positioner

Knee positioners are medical devices designed to support and precisely control a patient’s leg during knee replacement and other orthopedic surgeries. These devices attach to the operating table and use a boot or similar support to secure the foot, allowing the surgical team to adjust the knee’s flexion, extension, rotation, and tilt throughout the procedure. By maintaining stable and adjustable positioning, knee positioners improve surgical access while eliminating the need for assistants to manually hold the leg, helping reduce fatigue and improve procedural efficiency. The goal of this senior design project is to develop a novel knee positioner that operates independently from existing commercial systems. Our design focuses on improving functionality, usability, and reliability while providing surgeons with precise control of leg positioning during orthopedic procedures.
