Connecticut National Guard Stones Ranch Military Reservation Wastewater Management Design

The scope of this senior design project includes the evaluation and redesign of the existing septic systems that currently serve the administrative area, the firehouse and gun control area, and the geodetic area within the Stones Ranch Military Reservation. The goal is to replace these aging systems with a modern, reliable, and environmentally compliant wastewater infrastructure. In addition to upgrading the current septic tank infrastructure, a location for the new VMF is needed and a full design of a new septic system. As part of the design process, the group will also assess and provide information on feasible alternatives for leach field placement, either combined into one leach field or individual fields per each site. Additionally, the group will provide an initial review of the feasibility of connecting the installation to the municipal sewer line as an alternative wastewater management option. The design must account for the projected wastewater flows, operational needs, and site constraints. Throughout the project, all designs will be guided by strict regulatory requirements, including the Connecticut Departments of Energy and Environmental Protection, CT DEEP, and the Department of Defense Unified Facilities Criteria, DoD UFC. Maintaining compliance with these standards is essential for project approval, environmental protection, sustainability, and long-term operational integrity. Sustainability is a core component for the scope of the design. The project aims to minimize environmental impact by integrating best practices for wastewater treatment, enhancing system resilience, and improving long term reliability.
