Our senior design project, sponsored by Jaypro Sports, focuses on improving the design, manufacturability, and functionality of athletic field equipment used by schools, colleges, and recreational facilities. In the first phase of the project, our team validated Jaypro’s rapid prototyping product development process by designing and building several new equipment concepts, including a laceless lacrosse goal, a redesigned field hockey goal, an ergonomic volleyball referee stand, and an innovative soccer goal wheel kit. Each design addresses specific challenges related to manufacturing efficiency, safety, usability, and assembly while producing functional prototypes and detailed CAD models. Through this process, our team gained a deeper understanding of Jaypro’s manufacturing capabilities and product development workflow. In the second phase of the project, our team applied these insights to design and develop a rotating football goalpost system that allows the goalpost to rotate 180-degrees out of the field of play, enabling easier conversion of multi-purpose athletic fields for different sports.
