Model and Operation of a Single Saw
The Chamberlin Mill, located in Woodstock CT, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving a water powered sawmill that dates back to as early as the 1800’s. This project focuses on digitally reconstructing and animating the operation of the Muzzy Shingle Saw within the Chamberlin Mill. Building on prior work, the team completed a 3D geometric CAD model of the shingle saw in SolidWorks and integrated it with existing models of the water powered turbine, drive train, and circular saw to create a full system assembly. This CAD model was then imported into Blender to develop high quality animations, demonstrating both the shingle cutting process and component interaction throughout the sawmill. The final deliverables included narrated educational videos to support the Chamberlin Mill’s mission of providing STEM learning experiences for visitors.
