High Strain Rate Testing of Aluminum Honeycomb
This project aims to characterize the high-strain-rate compressive behavior of aluminum honeycomb structures used in aerospace applications. While these materials offer excellent strength-to-weight performance under typical loading, their response under dynamic impact conditions remains poorly understood. To address this gap, a Split Hopkinson Pressure Bar (SHPB) system will be restored and utilized to generate high-rate stress–strain data. The results will support improved material modeling and design of aerospace components subjected to impact events.
