A Mathematical Formula for Clinicians to Determine the Feasibility for Immediate Implant Functional Loading
The goal of this project is to create a 3D CAD Model of a human jawbone with a dental implant and then analyze the forces acting upon it. During dental implant surgery, the jawbone is drilled into and the implant is inserted into the hole. Typically, the crown (tooth) is not immediately put on the implant as healing must occur to avoid failure from biting. We want to better understand if dentists can immediately load a patient's implants or if they must wait for further healing to occur. The end goal is to create an applet/website that inputs a patient's specific parameters (age, bone thickness, bite force, etc) and outputs the probability of failure of immediately loading their implant(s) so the doctor can decide to put the tooth on immediately or wait for healing to occur.
