In order to quickly change scenic backgrounds during theatrical production the theater is looking for a design, prototype, and cost analysis for a motorized roll drop system. Their current system only allows for a single roll drop and requires a complicated manual system that does not operate within their crew and time requirements. Design a roll drop system that spans the width of the Scottish Rite Valley of Hartford stage and is able to support itself and the load of a painted drop. Design an appropriate motor and geartrain to deploy and recover the drop within 60 seconds. Solutions must meet ANSI E1.6-1-2012 standards for Entertainment Technology-Powered Hoist Systems. Design a remote user interface and corresponding system to control the motor and appropriate safety systems. Build and demonstrate a prototype of the system as well as a detailed Bill of Materials and budget for future implementation.
